About the cemetery

Character and history

Stuttgart’s largest cemetery lies in mixed woodland near Degerloch. It has a western main entrance, the eastern Viereichenhau entrance, three war memorials and the city’s largest concentration of honorary graves.

The Forest Cemetery was laid out from 1913 and opened in 1914. Paul Bonatz’s memorial grove followed in 1923, and since 1929 a funicular has connected the cemetery with Südheimer Platz.
